VINTAGE TURKISH POSTAGE STAMP
Out of circulation. Single stamp
250 kurus stamp printed by APA Ofset Basimevi (APA Offset Printinghouse) depicting a red train on a railroad coming out of the Van Lake and going from Turkey to Iran. Van Lake is easily recognizable by it's shape (the area in white in the stamp is a birds eye view of the lake boundaries). It is the largest lake in Turkey, situated in the Eastern Reagion of Turkey and hence very close to Iran as location. The area in darker yellow in the stamp showing the Turkish side of the Iran-Turkey border, whereas the area in lighter yellow is the Iranian side. The stamp is probably printed to celebrate the completion of the Turkey-Iran Railroad connection.
Kurus was worth 100th of a Turkish Lira (TL) before the removal of the 6 zeros from the end to start the new lira. It has been long out of circulation.
