VINTAGE TURKISH POSTAGE STAMP

Out of circulation. Single stamp

200 kurus stamp printed in 1969 by Tiforuk Matbaacilik Sanayi A.S. (Tiforuk Printing Inc.) in Izmir, Turkey. Depicting the Divrigi Door of the Great Mosque (Ulu Cami) on it in blue tones. The Great Mosque is located in Divrigi in Sivas, Turkey and had been comissioned by Bey of Mengucek Emir Ahmed Shah and stands fully intact today. Mengucek being an Anatolian Turkish Beylik of the first period (before Ottoman and Selcuk Empires). Adjoining the mosque there is Madical Center (known as Darussifa). It is considered as one of the most important works of architecture of Anatolia. The geometrical and floral patterned reliefs found on the main door in particular attract great interest.

Kurus was worth 100th of a Turkish Lira (TL) before the removal of the 6 zeros from the end to start the new lira. It has been long out of circulation.
